Wolf + Lamb & Soul Clap roll deep, as it were. Their collaborative DJ-Kicks mix features no less than ten exclusive tracks, all comprised of material from their close-knit extended circle of friends and family. Leading up to the release of the mix, we decided to connect the dots, picking the brains of the talent behind the exclusive tracks on the mix. In this edition we spoke with Tanner Ross, the Berklee-educated producer and member of supergroup SECT (along with Soul Clap’s Eli & Charlie, and Sergio Santos). His track “Goodbye Summer” and SECT’s “In The Park” are two of the highlights of the first EP of DJ-Kicks exclusives. Both EPs are out now.
Both W+L & SC refer to this mix as a family affair. How did you first get involved with the guys, and how does your sound relate to theirs?
I lived with Charlie from SC for about 3 years and during that time we developed a really amazing musical relationship and naturally I became friends with everyone else that led to me being a part of the family. :0)
Was this piece of music made specifically for this mix? If so, was there an effort to tailor it to a certain aesthetic at all?
This specific track was made just for fun and I sent it to SC as soon as I finished it. During the time I sent it they were working on the mix and it fit the vibe perfectly.
Is there a specific piece of gear that you couldn’t live without?
My laptop because if I didnt have that id be SOL.
Do you have a favorite entry in the DJ-Kicks series?
Vikter Duplaix for sure. I grew up outside of Philadelphia so that sort of sound really hits close to home for me.
If you were a pro wrestler what would your signature move be?
Im afraid I can not answer this question…If I gave away my signature move, then everyone would know and try to counter me!
