Hear Daniel Avery’s Huge Exclusive Club Track “A Mechanical Sky”

avery_mechanicalsky With his much anticipated DJ-Kicks mix due to drop next Friday, the man at its helm, London-based producer and DJ Daniel Avery, has today premiered the third and final of his original productions for the release in the form of the slow-burning, searing ‘A Mechanical Sky’. This follows ambient first taste ‘Space Echo’, accompanied by a striking animated visual from Kevin A. Freeney, and Avery’s collaboration with BleeD boss Volte-Face as Rote with ‘Look In Your Eyes’.

First teased in his Dekmantel set this August in front of a rapturous audience both at the festival and online via a live Boiler Room broadcast, ‘A Mechanical Sky’ comes in close to the album’s end point, segueing into the propulsive, shimmering techno of Edit-Select’s remix of ‘Cirklon Bells’ by Glaswegian duo Slam (aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle), before ‘Space Echo’ slows down the orbit, bringing proceedings to a close in a warm soundscape of disembodied, crystalline atmospherics.

Speaking about ‘A Mechanical Sky,’ Avery commented, "A club track made exclusively for the mix. It feels good to be back in the studio and making music again. Some finish lines are appearing on the horizon.

Daniel Avery’s DJ-Kicks is released 11th November 2016. Pre-orders are available now.

Daniel Avery’s Rote Project Premieres A New Track From DJ-Kicks

preffered-danielavery0616_gullick_q8a6823-pls-credit-steve-gullickWith his DJ-Kicks album just weeks away, London-based producer and DJ Daniel Avery shares another track from the highly anticipated release. In recent months Avery has teamed up with BleeD boss Volte-Face for a new collaborative project called Rote, and today he debuts their track ‘Look In Your Eyes’ via Thump, one of three new original Avery productions on the album alongside the ambient closing track ‘Space Echo,' and the slow-burning, driving intensity of ‘A Mechanical Sky’.

Avery's DJ-Kicks mix creates a hypnotic space focusing on “music by like-minded souls” from the outer reaches of techno including international talents Svreca, Rrose, Artefakt and IORI. It is a mix concerned with the idea of taking a collective breath and allowing records their own time.

Daniel Avery’s DJ-Kicks is released 11th November 2016. Pre-orders are available now.

DJ Koze To Mix 50th Volume In DJ-Kicks Series

K7325The DJ-Kicks series was born in Berlin in 1995, the first officially licensed DJ mix series available commercially. Over the past 20 years, the series has maintained a steady finger on the pulse of electronic music, earning a reputation as an essential barometer for what’s happening right now in the world of dance music. To celebrate the 50th entry in the series, we’ve brought the series back to Germany with a very special mix from the iconoclastic DJ Koze.

Characteristically refusing to hew to any particular genre or style, Koze’s mix nonetheless creates a uniform color, incorporating underground hip-hop, melodic techno, indie pop, and vintage songwriting for a selection of tracks that is at once nostalgic and futuristic, melancholy and joyful.

In order to incorporate a variety of styles, Koze created a number of custom edits and blends for the set. He also takes a novel approach to the concept of a “mix,” often eschewing long overlays in favor of serendipitous juxtapositions. “During the day I don’t have the requirement of hearing anything mixed in strict time,” he says. “Instead I focus on harmoniousness. The idea is more to create the appearance of a radio show, in the vein of John Peel for example. There is a giant cosmos of music running through my filter.”

DJ-Kicks also includes a new DJ Koze original, in the form of the dilla-esque “I Have Not Been Everywhere But It’s On My List.” With its fragile soul samples, pinched, anxious-expressive vocal snippets, and sweet guitar riffs, the track sets a luxurious tone for the mix. The mood is gentle, laid back, extremely open and willingly to take risks.

DJ Koze’s DJ-Kicks will be released June 15th 2015 on !K7 Records. Pre-orders are available now.

Brandt Brauer Frick’s “Hugo” Music Video Depicts The Blur Of Life On The Road

There's a certain mystique to the life of a touring musician: new places and people every day, not a lot of sleep, the rush of performing, the monotony of transportation. In their new music video for the DJ-Kicks exclusive track "Hugo," Brandt Brauer Frick have found a way to encapsulate the experience in short form, using a rapidfire montage format culled from over 15,000 pictures shot during their recent performances. Watch the video and read Daniel Brandt's description below. DJ-Kicks is out this week, and available at local record stores as well as iTunes, Amazon and the !K7 store.
As everyone produces a big mass of photos/data on a regular basis since the smartphone is in everyone's hands, nobody is ever able to actually go through them anymore. The moments of looking back actually never happen. To take this even further we invented a new happening while touring called the "Shoot out." In a shoot out everyone takes out their smartphone and tries to take as many photos of all other people involved as possible which results in having loads of photos from different perspectives. This was the starting point of this video and also the need to have those photos not be completely lost in piles of data no one will ever go through again. It was more of a practical solution of getting those photos from the past two years into a context that people will actually see them but we also don't need to bore them off with a slide show at home as no one wants to look at personal photos from other people anymore longer than a second (except our parents). The video consists of a selection from originally around 15.000 photos. -Daniel Brandt

bbf-pics-selection3 med As the February 24th release date of Brandt Brauer Frick's DJ-Kicks draws closer, the Berlin trio has shared another of their exclusive compositions from the mix. Compared to "Bommel," another original which debuted in December, "Hugo" is slightly more reserved, though no less driving. Staccato synths evoke a strobe-lit dancefloor before giving way to chugging house grove laced with the group's signature tactile percussive sounds. Stream "Hugo" below. Hear An Exclusive Cosmin TRG Track From Brandt Brauer Frick’s DJ-Kicks

BBF_CosminTRG_YouTube In addition to three new tracks from Brandt Brauer Frick themselves, the upcoming DJ-Kicks mixed by Berlin’s trio of Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer and Paul Frick also features several exclusive pieces of music from their extended artistic circle. Which means the guys had to press quite a few custom dubplates in order to stick to their plan of recording the mix strictly from vinyl during a day-long session at the famed club Watergate. All of which goes to show you just how dedicated these guys are, and what a special mix they’ve created.

Daniel Brandt explains how he first connected with fellow Berlin-based producer Cosmin TRG below, where you can also stream Cosmin’s contribution to the mix.

“I met Cosmin through the Red Bull Music Academy, and we have been talking about various collaborative projects ever since. I was always into his rough sound and he’s a great DJ. That’s why we asked him to do a track for the Kicks, and the track he delivered was a perfect tune to have in the harder section of the mix. It also is the perfect follow up for the Bok Bok & Tom Trago track before it, to level up the energy even more, and mixes very well with the MMM track afterwards.”

DJ-Kicks is available February 24th.
